The Meaning

I thought long and hard before starting this journey. In all honesty, I didn’t want this to be another task I leave behind, forgotten and incomplete. It is hard to measure for sure how many times this has happened to me, but I know some of you will relate. A new project always demands more energy, and energy can fade away in just a few seconds.

Wasn’t for some special friends and my partner’s motivation, this would probably not be happening. Find people in your life that motivates you, then hold on tight and be thankful for them.

Comings and Goings was my very first print, and I gifted it to someone. By this point, you must be wondering why, with so many fantastic animals in nature, I photographed seagulls. Well, I am not a classist. To me, birds represent freedom. They carry this magnificent meaning naturally. And freedom has always been the goal.

On the day I took these images, my heart was feeling heavy. I was feeling so trapped in my thoughts, so secluded in myself that, while I was watching the world in front of me, I could not see it. It’s aching to think about how many memories we have not built, how many feelings we have not felt, just because we couldn’t see.

I had my camera in front of my eyes as I scanned the area for a subject - pictures are all about them - when I saw these birds approaching me. As they passed by, it was almost like a curtain lifted. Their unyielding flight brought me instantaneously back to the present. It grounded me.

And by being grounded, I was free again.

As I watched them go, I couldn’t help but wonder where would they land next. Would it be close to my birthplace in South America? How many stops would they make until their final destination? It’s entirely up to them. No one but nature dictates it. Isn’t that inspiring?

And as far as inspiration goes, that’s the meaning of this. This blog, this website. To simply share what inspires me with you.

Maybe it will ground you too. Or better yet, give you wings.
